[11.02] Motorization and Computer Control of the Sonoma State \\University Very Small Array

G. Sprehn, B. Owen, L. Cominsky (SSU)

The Sonoma State University Very Small Array Radio Telescope is the only working radio interferometer at an undergraduate university. During this past year, it has undergone a substantial upgrade to accomplish dish pointing and tracking with stepper motors under computer control. The hardware implementation techniques will be described. A new sensitivity limit has been established based on the longer integration times allowed by tracking. Data from the best observations will be presented.

This work has been supported by a grant from the AAS Research Experiences for Undergraduates program, and by an Undergraduate Research Award from the Society of Physics Students.
