[33.02] Precise Localizations of Gamma-Ray Bursts from the 2nd Interplanetary Network

The second interplanetary network of gamma-ray burst detectors was in operation between 1981 and 1984. It consisted of the Soviet Venera 13 and 14 spacecraft (with the Franco-Soviet SIGNE burst detectors), Pioneer Venus Orbiter, the International Cometary Explorer, and the Solar Maximum Mission, among others. During its lifetime, approximately 150 cosmic gamma-ray bursts were detected, and many can be localized to high accuracy. The addition of these events to the growing list of precise locations will make a better estimate of the burster recurrence time possible. We will present a number of four spacecraft localizations to illustrate the potential of this network, and discuss the techniques we will use to perform multi-wavelength counterpart searches.
