We present KAO mapping observations in the [CII] 158 $\mu$m line of both the S140 HII region/molecular cloud interface and the extended Rosette Molecular Cloud Complex obtained with the FIFI/MPE instrument. In S140, the combination with data of similar angular resolution in $^{12/13}$CO 2-1 and 3-2 and [CI] $^3$P$_1$-$^3$P$_0$ (492 GHz) obtained at the KOSMA 3m-telescope allows a detailed comparison with the chemical and physical conditions predicted in PDR models. In the RMC, FIFI's frequency switching mode allowed to detect very weak, extended [CII] emission from deep within the cloud complex. Comparison with CO mapping and recent optical images published by Block et al.\ show the [CII] emission to be well correlated with clump edges and optical rims. Additional C$^+$ is created by embedded sources in some of the clump cores.
