A careful X-ray study of low luminosity active galactic nuclei (LLAGNs) is important in order to specifically address the issues of whether the dominant X-ray production mechanism is the same at all luminosities in AGNs and to determine the contribution of LLAGNs to the soft X-ray background. We present the results of a study of 5 LLAGN observed with the ROSAT HRI where we have determined the distribution of X-rays in these objects. We find that the X-ray emission is exclusively nuclear despite their low Einstein X-ray luminosity ($\approx 5 \times 10^{39}$ ergs/sec). We discuss the X-ray luminosities of these LLAGN in the context of luminous Seyfert galaxies and the soft X-ray Background.
