[61.03] ROSAT PSPC Observations of Clouds at High Galactic Latitude

We have pointed observations with the ROSAT PSPC toward four high galactic latitude clouds. Previously published ROSAT data have revealed that the high latitude diffuse soft x-ray background is partially shadowed by some high galactic latitude clouds. The emission that originates beyond those clouds is not isotropic, however, but appears to vary by at least a factor of five on angular scales of order 50\deg. This implies that the hot gas in the galactic halo is a localized rather than a global phenomenon. The pointings presented here were selected to probe the location along the line of sight of the hot galactic halo, its angular extent, and variations in its brightness.
