[52.02] Quasi-Global Analysis of a Magnetized Accretion Disk

C.F. Gammie, S. A. Balbus (UVA Astronomy)

We consider the global modes of a uniformly magnetized finite thickness disk. Our disk model incorporates the vertical stratification of the disk but (except for velocity shear) ignores radial structure. Analytic expressions are obtained for the modes and their growth rates in the special case of a uniform vertical field. Numerical integration gives the modes and growth rates for more general orientations of the magnetic field. We discuss implications for the stability of astrophysical accretion disks.
