[76.10] NGC 4378's One-armed Spiral Pattern: Leading or Trailing?

S. Howard (USRA/GSFC), T. Freeman (U. of Alabama), G. G. Byrd (U. of Alabama)

We show simulations of the single-armed pattern in the disk galaxy NGC 4378. Our simulations of the galaxy NGC 4622 verified the single leading arm near its nucleus. In contrast, this simulation of another single arm galaxy, NGC 4378, shows that its single arm is trailing and was possibly created by a small perturber grazing the disk edge.
