We report results from 3--D hydrodynamical/N--body simulations of the formation and evolution of rich clusters of galaxies, focusing on the hot, X--ray emitting intracluster medium (ICM). Cluster gas, galaxies, and dark matter are included in the model. We also model the ejection of hot, enriched gas by galaxies into the ICM. The characteristics of the ensemble allow us to address the energetics of the various components of clusters, the evolution of x--ray luminosity and morphology, the distribution of iron, the reliability of hydrostatic mass estimates, and systematics or correlations between observables.
