[4.05] CCD Astrometry of Helene(SXII), Telesto(SXIII) and Calypso(SXIV): 1993 Observations

J.R.Rohde, D.Pascu (USNO)

Helene(SXII) is the L4 librator in the Dione/Saturn system while Telesto(SXIII) and Calypso(SXIV) are the L4 and L5 librators in the Tethys/Saturn system. Our 1992 observations of these satellites indicated that the ephemerides of the two Tethys librators were accurate, but that Helene was advanced 8 deg. on its ephemeris.

We observed these satellites again during the 1993 apparition of Saturn with the USNO 61-inch astro- metric reflector. Similar techniques were used to refer the faint satellites to the brighter ones and the trail/scale method was used to reduce the observations. The ephemeris was compared to the new observations in order to confirm the results of the 1992 apparition. We discuss the correction of Helene's orbit as well as observational problems.
