[44.12] CCD Photometry of BM Ori and other Trapezium Cluster Members

BVRI photometry of the Trapezium stars has been obtained during the 1993/94 observing season with a CCD attached to the 0.6 m (Perkin) reflector at Van Vleck Observatory. More than 250 short exposures (0.5 to 3 secs) were taken in each filter in an attempt to sample the light curve of the eclipsing binary BM Ori with good temporal resolution. While all phases were not sampled, our data do show that the star reddens by about 0.1 mag in V-I as it approaches minimum light. We also detect a small brightening following primary eclipse. Light curves will be displayed and used to examine the hypothesis that the secondary is embedded in a disk. By summing up to ninety exposures on a single night we have produced combined images with superior dynamic range. These permit useful photometry to be done on faint stars, even those very close to the cluster center.
