[48.19] Stellar orbits in doubly barred galaxies

H. Hasan (STScI)

There is now considerable observational evidence of the presence of an inner bar in barred galaxies. The effect of the inner bar on stellar orbits is examined in this work by classifying periodic orbits and surfaces of section. The galaxy is represented by a model potential and equations of motion solved numerically. The effect of the inner bar is to destabilize the orbits in the galactic plane. Consequences of this phenomenon of galactic evolution are discussed.
