[53.05] Radio Light Curves and Images of Nova Cygni 1992

R.M. Hjellming (NRAO)

Radio observations of Nova Cygni 1992 made by the VLA and Merlin are reviewed and discussed in terms of models for the expanding shell. Merlin radio images show evolution during 1992 of an apparently assymetric structure, with increasing brightness temperature, that can only reflect an increase in electron temperature during 1992. VLA images made 1992 Oct. 20, 1992 Dec. 27, and 1994 Mar. 28 show a series of resolved structures, including an apparently circular shell at the end of 1992, and a weak, highly resolved shell in 1994. Five frequency radio light curves show the complete evolution from an optically thick source to a weak, decaying, optically thin source. Variable wind and Hubble flow shell models are fitted to the light curves, requiring changes in electron temperature and perhaps a late stage of an ionization bounded emitting region in the shell.
