[55.04] A Comparison of Circularly and Linearly Polarized Features of SiO Masers

G.C. McIntosh, J.J. Ulrich (Univ. of Minn. Morris), C.R. Predmore, N.A. Patel (FCRAO, Univ. of Mass.)

The circular and linear polarization characteristics of several SiO maser sources have been measured. Both the v=1, J=2-1 (86 GHz) and the v=1, J=1-0 (43 GHz) transitions have been observed. The circularly polarized features are generally single handed and more narrow than the corresponding linearly polarized features. Velocity filters proposed to generate the single handedness may also result in the narrowing of the circularly polarized features. The observations will be presented and discussed with respect to velocity filter mechanisms and polarization mechanisms suggested in the literature.
