[58.04] A Statistical Analysis of the Type II Cepheid Spatial Distribution and Luminosity Function: Preliminary Results

J. E. Marquardt (Mankato State U.), J. Hakkila (Mankato State U.), C. A. Meegan (NASA/MSFC)

Techniques previously used to analyze the spatial distribution and luminosity function of gamma-ray bursts (Hakkila et al. 1994, ApJ 422, 664) are applied to Type II Cepheid stars. One important ingredient necessary for this analysis is a map of sky sampling, which has been estimated from remarks made in the literature and is presented here. The analysis models interstellar reddening effects, and obtains results that are consistent with a halo population. This work has been supported by NASA grant NAG8-192.
