[9.03] Unidentified EGRET Sources at High Latitudes

The Energetic Gamma Ray Telescope on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory has detected a large number of sources in the all sky survey conducted during the initial phase 1 of the mission (Fichtel et al., 1994, ApJS, in press). The majority of sources at high latitudes ($|b|>10^{\circ}$) are identified as radio loud quasars and BL Lac objects. An additional 8 strong and 36 marginal sources are detected for energies above 100 MeV outside the region of the plane. The properties of these sources including their time variability, energy spectra, and spatial distribution are summarized based on data accumulated through phase 2 (08/17/93) for possible clues to their nature. Unidentified sources within the region of galactic plane are examined in a companion paper (Thompson et al., this meeting).
