[102.15] Spectral Variability in Her X-1

D.A. Leahy (Dept. Physics and Astronomy, University of Calgary)

Here the entire set of Ginga observations of Her X-1 are analyzed. Light curves and softness ratios are used to study spectral changes which occur over the 35-day cycle of Hercules X-1. Color-intensity and color-color diagrams are used to distinguish the different spectral states in Her X-1. Spectral changes in the low-state are demonstrated. Evidence is presented that dips occur in two different spectral forms. Eclipse ingress, eclipse egress, normal dips, and the declining phases of the high-state and of the short-on all show similar spectral changes.
