[106.06] Color Distributions and Number Counts of Extremely Faint K-Selected Galaxies

L.A.Moustakas, M.Davis, J.R. Graham (U.C.Berkeley), S.Charlot (NOAO), B.Peterson (MSSSO, Australia)

We report on optical/near-IR faint galaxy number counts and on a detailed comparison between galaxy evolutionary models and the (optical-NIR) colors of faint galaxies. The observations are of two ``random'' high galactic-latitude fields, and have limiting magnitudes of fainter than $(K,I,V)_{lim} \approx (24, 28, 27)$. The near infrared data were taken with the Near Infrared Camera on the 10-meter Keck telescope, and the optical data were taken with the New Technology Telescope.
