[108.13] Spectra for Saturated Masing in Extragalactic Circumnuclear Disks and NGC 4258

A.J. Collison, R.E. Emmering, W.D. Watson (UIUC)

Spectra and angular distributions are presented for radiation that is emitted by saturated masing in a thin, Keplerian disk. The relevant parameters are chosen to reflect the recent observations of the 22 GHz water masers in the galaxy NGC 4258. Calculations for saturated masing in a Keplerian disk are considerably more challenging than for unsaturated masing as a result of the interrelationship between the maser radiation and the molecular populations. These represent the first such calculations. New results include the appearance of multiple satellite features, rather than the single satellite features of the characteristic triplet spectrum due to unsaturated Keplerian disks. The spectra here complement those presented previously (based on unsaturated masing) to interpret maser observations as evidence for a 0.1 pc, circumnuclear disk rotating about $10^7~M_{\odot}$ at the nucleus of NGC 4258 (Watson \& Wallin, ApJL, 432, L35 [1994]).
