[110.03] Optical Variability Timescales In Blazars Revisited

James R. Webb, Pamela Jenkins, Rolondo Branly, and Thomas J. Barnello (Florida International University)

Due to continued optical monitoring of a number of Blazars, timescales previously identified in the light curves of these objects can be critically re-examined. Several sources show variations that, although they are not strictly periodic, suggest we are observing timescales that are inherent in the sources. In particular, large flares in BL Lac objects such as AO 0235+164 and Blazar 3C 345 apparently recur on semi-regular timescales. The time between outbursts and the similarities in well-observed outbursts suggests a time-dependent mechanism for the outbursts in the sources.
