[111.04D] Continuum Spectral Evolution Of Gamma-Ray Bursts

V. Kargatis (Rice University)

To supplement studies on gamma-ray burst (GRB) distribution and population statistics, temporal morphologies, and spectral line searches, we focus on the analysis of GRB continuum spectral evolution. Previous spectral evolution studies have shown a variety of patterns. We compare different spectral fitting models used to characterize the spectral shape to investigate the systematics inherent in this type of analysis and determine the limits of accuracy with which one can derive the spectral parameters. We investigate correlations between energy flux, spectral hardness, and other parameters. We also specifically test the spectral evolution patterns predicted by an absorption model explaining simple hard-to-soft evolution.
