[116.03] High Speed UV Photometry of AM Herculis Binaries

The High Speed Photometer (HSP) on board the Hubble Space Telescope has observed the magnetic cataclysmic variables VV Pup and AM Her, in the UV (1400 - 3000 {\AA}) with 0.01 s time resolution. We present results of our analysis of the UV time series, which includes the detection of low-frequency flickering (period $\sim$ 550 s) in AM Her. These results can be used to study the structure and dynamics of the accretion column, and are compared to the predictions of Hameury et al, (1986). Our data were also analyzed using the Gabor transform wavelet-like technique (Heil \& Walnut 1990), to search for frequency evolution throughout each observation. Preliminary analysis suggests detection of rapid UV quasi-periodic oscillations in VV Pup at 0.67 Hz, related to shock oscillations in its accretion column(s).
