[21.16] Radial Emissivity Profiles of Cataclysmic Variable Accretion Disks

Eric M. Schlegel, Todd Hillwig (NASA-GSFC/USRA), Ronald H. Kaitchuck (Ball State University)

We present radial profiles of the H-beta line of the accretion disks for the cataclysmic variables presented in the ApJS Doppler Tomography Atlas (August 1994 issue). These profiles are based upon time-resolved spectrophotometry of the H-beta, H-gamma, and He II lines. The profiles cover 4 dwarf novae, 10 novalike CVs, 3 classical novae, and 1 intermediate polar. The radial profiles, regardless of class, have essentially the same power law index at high velocities. At low velocities, however, the index for the novalikes is shallower than for the dwarf novae. There are also clear variations of the emissivity profile in multi-epoch observations.
