We present results from combined study of kinematic and spectral evolution of the compact VLBI jet in 3C345. The data has been obtained during the multifrequency VLBI monitoring program at 5, 8, 11, 22, and 43 GHz. We derive the evolution of the turnover frequency in the bright features of the jet. The changes of the turnover frequency are compared with the predictions by the shock--in--jet model, and the two--fluid model. An evidence for a relation between the spectral and kinematic evolution of the jet components is presented. We discuss preliminary results from the continuous spectral fitting, a technique which we have developed primarily for mapping the turnover frequency distribution in the VLBI jets.
