We present recent Keck spectroscopic and HST imaging observations of powerful radio galaxies at $z \sim 1$. In spite of recent claims to the contrary, 3CR 65 appears to have a dominant old stellar population. We place strong limits on any scattered quasar contribution to the aligned component in 3CR 368, and we examine the implications of the morphologies seen in HST WFPC2 images of a few other $z \sim 1$ 3CR galaxies.
