[41.08] The APS Catalog of the POSS I: New Access, New Data

Cornuelle, C. S., Thurmes, P., Musukula, S., Humphreys, R. M., Aldering, G., and Odewahn, S. C. (University of Minnesota)

Several new features of the APS Catalog of the POSS I have improved both the data quality and ease of access over the earlier demonstration catalog. Galaxy magnitudes are now derived from a D-I relation, the overall magnitude limit is about one magnitude fainter, and the astrometry is improved. One of the new catalog fields is the output of the neural network galaxy classifier.

The catalog is now accessible using Mosaic over the World Wide Web (WWW) and via NASA's Astrophysical Data System (ADS). Another new method of POSS I catalog access is a finder chart generator. This is accessible using Mosaic, and from any Internet site using telnet.

Work is underway on an Internet-accessible database of APS-produced images from the POSS I plates. These will be FITS postage stamps and will include the catalog astrometry and other useful parameters.
