[46.05] Modeling G29--38

S. J. Kleinman (Astronomy Dept., Univ. of Texas at Austin)

The DAV white dwarfs have, until recently, kept their interior secrets hidden despite the asteroseismological probes thrown at them. Recent work has shown that the hotter DAVs are a remarkably homogeneous class whose properties can be discovered through temporal spectroscopy. It is not immediately obvious, however, how the cooler DAVs fit this new scheme. G29--38, in particular, is a mysterious object with its reported infrared excess, possible radial velocity variation, and bizarre pulsation properties. Combining 7 seasons of photometric data with other published observations, we report new discoveries and attempt to provide a unified model for the system.
