[76.12] HI, HII, HIRAS, \& Massive Stars: Tracing the Star Formation in M31

E.A. Magnier, J. van Paradijs (U. Amsterdam, AIAP \& CHEAF), D.J.M. Kester, Tj.R. Bontekoe (SRON Laboratory for Space Research Groningen)

We are studying the large-scale processes of star formation in M31 by combining observations at a variety of wavelengths. We are using the Magnier et. al. BVRI CCD survey of M31 (Magnier et. al., 1992; Haiman et. al., 1993), the HI survey of Brinks \& Shane (1984), the IRAS survey data, deconvolved with the IRAS-GIPSY system ``HIRAS'' (Wesselius, et al, 1992), and our recent H$\alpha$ observations. An intercomparison of these four sets of data reveals much detail of the recent and currently active star formation in M31. We present views of several areas which demonstrate important features of the M31 star formation -- OB associations which have blown holes in the ISM; evidence of active, embedded star formation; and evidence of star formation triggered by spiral arm interactions.
