[9.11] Hubble Space Telescope Post-Servicing Mission Absolute and Relative Positional Stability Assessment

The first Hubble Space Telescope Shuttle servicing mission in December 1993 was an outstanding success. Items important to the control system were replaced including the solar arrays and magnetometers, and the operability of the full complement of six gyroscopes was restored. Of particular importance to the relative pointing stability are the solar array vibrations. The amplitude of vehicle disturbances induced by the new arrays are equivalent to the old arrays with software compensation in the control system. On-board disturbance compensation was activated in June, 1994. It has been demonstrated that the levels of vehicle disturbance during quiet solar array vibration periods, are presently near the two milliarc second (one minute, two-axis rms) regime.
