[24.03] On the Origin of the NV Broad Emission Line in QSO Spectra

Lincoln Lee, David A.Turnshek, Sheflynn Sherer (Univ. of Pittsburgh)

Preliminary results on the measured properties of certain broad emission lines in the rest frame UV spectra of approximately 130 QSOs are presented. Correlations or the lack of correlations between the measured rest frame equivalent widths and FWHMs of the Ly$\alpha$, NV, CIV, and HeII broad emission lines are considered. In addition, for approximately half the sample, the rest frame equivalent widths of the [OIII]$\lambda$5007 narrow emission line was tabulated. We discuss these results and what they imply for the origin of the NV broad emission line in QSO spectra.
