We are engaged in a wide-field search for variables in the distant dwarf spheroidal galaxy Leo~II. This search employs the 1-meter telescope at the U.S.~Naval Observatory Flagstaff station with Tektronix $1024^2$ and $2048^2$ CCD detectors. The field of view of the smaller detector, $11\rm\,arcmin$, includes most of the stars of the galaxy, while that of the larger detector, $23\rm\,arcmin$, encloses the tidal radius. Our photometry reaches the horizontal branch with accuracy 10\% or better, enabling detection of RR~Lyrae variables. We present a finding chart for historic and new variable stars, some representative light curves, and a color-magnitude diagram for the galaxy.
