Session 12 - Radio Galaxies, VLBI.
Display session, Monday, January 15
North Banquet Hall, Convention Center
We will present preliminary results from the first 86 GHz (3 mm) VLBI experiment to do linear polarization measurements. This initial observation included only three stations for a short range of time, on two quasars, known to be bright at millimeter wavelengths: 3C273 and 3C279.
We have detected I and P fringes on both sources. The instrumental polarization contributions derived appear to be of the order of several percent. We will discuss the calibration of the data, including a treatment of the instrumental polarization contamination. Finally, we will show simple model fits to the visibility data and discuss the sub-milliarcsecond polarization structure of these sources.
