[20.15] A Survey for N_2H^+, C_3H_2, and CCS in Dense Cores

P. J. Benson (Wellesley C.), P. Caselli, P. C. Myers (CfA)

We have used Haystack's new 3 mm receiver and upgraded antenna to make high spatial and spectral resolution observations of N_2H^+ and C_3H_2 in several dense cores which were previously mapped in NH_3. In spite of the fact that N_2H^+ is an ion and NH_3 and C_3H_2 are neutral molecules, the detection of all three species are detected in most of the same cores, and the velocities and line widths are well-correlated. Twenty of the cores were also observed in the J = 1 -- 0 line of CCS. We find no indication that CCS is more abundant in cold quiescent cores than in star forming regions.

PJB thanks the Center for Astrophysics and the Bunting Institute for support during most of the work of this paper.
