[21.07] Physical Conditions in HH39

R. Indebetouw, N. Sharp, D. De Young (KPNO, NOAO)

Physical conditions in the HH39 object are analysed using images taken in the light of H\alpha, [SII]\lambda 6716ÅSII]\lambda 6731Åand [NII]\lambda 6584ÅTwo-dimensional maps of the [SII]\lambda 6731/\lambda 6716 ratio, resultant electron density, and the excitation - dependent ratios [SII]\lambda\lambda 6716+6731/H\alpha, and [NII]\lambda 6584/H\alpha are calculated. Trends across the object place limitations on bow-shock and jet models of the object. A wide-field search for further shock activity in the R Monocerotis region, using images in the light of H\alpha and [SII]\lambda\lambda 6716+ 6731, shows that HH39 is isolated and probably not part of a larger flow.
