[34.03] COBE-DMR Full-Sky Maps of the Cosmic Microwave Background

A central problem in cosmology is the origin and evolution of the large-scale structure observed in the present-day universe. The angular distribution of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) probes the distribution of matter and energy in the early universe, providing important information on the ``initial conditions'' leading to the formation of these structures. The Differential Microwave Radiometers (DMR) aboard the Cosmic Background Explorer have mapped the full microwave sky to precision \Delta T/T < 6 \times 10^-6 per 7\deg field of view. I will present the DMR sky maps and discuss DMR's contribution to our understanding of the early universe.

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration/Goddard Space Flight Center (NASA/GSFC) is responsible for the design, development, and operation of the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE). Scientific guidance is provided by the COBE Science Working Group.
