[43.15] Photometric Study of the Solar-type, W UMa Binary, V440 Casseiopae

In conjunction with our investigation of short-period, solar type binaries, we obtained complete B, V, R, and I photoelectric light curves of V440 Casseiopae phased from observations taken 1994 September 27, 28, and 29 at Kitt Peak National Observatory, Arizona. The 0.9 m Cassegrain reflector telescope was used in conjunction with the CCD photometer system (CCDPHOT). Five epochs of minimum light were determined from observations made during three secondary and two primary eclipses. The bisection-of-chords technique was utilized in their determination. Linear ephemerides were calculated from all available epochs of minimum light and an improved ephemeris was calculated. The light curve reveals that V440 is a W-type W UMa binary. V440 Cas consists of two early K stars. B, V, R, and I simultaneous light curve solutions yield a mass ratio of 0.447 and a fill-out of 10 *This research was partially supported by funds from the National Science Foundation.
