Session 50 - Active Galaxies.
Display session, Tuesday, January 16
North Banquet Hall, Convention Center
The Seyfert 1 nucleus in NGC 3783 shows absorption in ultraviolet resonance lines as well as in soft X-rays. Such absorption features are of interest as possible diagnostics of the small-scale structure of active galactic nuclei. We will present results addressing the physical state and temporal behavior of the absorber(s) in NGC 3783, and the extent to which absorption features in the UV and X-ray windows trace the same medium. Simple photoionization scenarios provide a framework for interpreting the absorber behavior as well as constraints on the absorber's location.
