[73.03] The N.G.C. Telescope Instrumentation Improvement Project

J. H. Jones (North Georgia College)

In June of 1993, we were awarded an NSF-ILI grant which we used to acquire new astronomical instrumentation for the school's 16" Boller and Chivens research grade cassegrain telescope. Our plan was to end up with a research grade CCD camera system including computer control, an automated filter wheel with a standard wide band filter set for photometry, and a spectrograph for astronomical spectroscopy. Ultimately, the instrumentation would be used for student research and some of the acquired observational data would be integrated into the introductory astronomy labs. By October 1995, we had obtained all the instrumentation and had begun to integrate its use and output into the astronomy/astrophysics curriculum at N.G.C. We report here on our successes and trials in obtaining the equipment and on our progress in achieving the goals of the project.
