Session 78 - Supernova Remnants.
Display session, Wednesday, January 17
North Banquet Hall, Convention Center
We present the preliminary results of the ASCA SIS observations of the supernova remnant VRO42.05.01. The spectral fits to the X-ray data suggest that the remnant is isothermal with variations in absorbing column densities across the remnant. The remnant has an X-ray temperature of \sim 2.6 \times 10^6 K and an absorbing column of \sim 6 \times 10^21 cm^-2. The obtained X-ray temperature and column density are one third of and six times of those corresponding values obtained from the ROSAT PSPC data, respectively. The derived distance to VRO42.05.01 using standard column density to reddenning ratio is \sim 2 kpc. The estimated density and thermal pressure of brightest part of the SNR are 0.95 cm^-3 and 2.5 \times 10^6 cm^-3 K, respectively. Variations of emission measures and elemental abundances are evident in the spectral fits.
