Session 79 - CVs and Novae.
Display session, Wednesday, January 17
North Banquet Hall, Convention Center
FO Aqr, a member of the intermediate polar subclass of magnetic cataclysmic variables (CVs), was observed with ASCA in 1993 May. Initial results from this observation have already been published; here we present the results of more detailed analyses, as well as comparison with other magnetic CVs (such as AO Psc) observed with ASCA.
In particular, we discuss: The location and quantity of the material responsible for the orbital modulation, and whether it is consistent with a simple cold absorber; (2) The nature of high energy (E\sim10 keV) spin modulation, whether a clumpy accretion is required; (3) The origin of the low energy (E<1.5 keV) component, which is concentrated in a narrow spin pulse; and (4) The relative phasing of the optical and X-ray spin pulses.
