[108.08] Spectra Index Mapping of the Compact HII Regions G29.96-0.02 and G31.41+0.31

M. J. Claussen (NRAO), P. Hofner (Univ. of Cologne)

In an attempt to discover further examples of non-thermal emission toward or nearby to compact HII regions --- such as found toward the water masers near W3(OH) by Reid et. al (ApJ, 1995), we observed the compact HII regions G29.96-0.02 and G31.41+0.31 using the VLA in its highest resolution configuration to image these regions at 1\arcsec \hskip 5 truept resolution at 20 cm wavelength. These sources have hot molecular clumps with associated water masers which are thought to have embedded newly-formed massive stars, but are not the stars responsible for ionizing the HII region.

We did not unambiguously detect any non-thermal emission, but the images obtained at 20 cm when compared with images at higher frequencies in the literature allow us to discuss the spectral index of the radio emission as a function of position within the HII region at very high angular resolution.
