Session 110 - Imaging of Cluster Galaxies.
Display session, Thursday, January 18
North Banquet Hall, Convention Center
We present HST/WFPC-2 images of a previously unknown compact group of galaxies in Canes Venatici. These images were obtained as part of the GTO parallel program. In this program, WFPC-2 images are taken using the F606W (wide V) and F814W (WFPC-2 I) filters in parallel with GTO observations using other HST instruments. The images obtained in parallel with FOS observations of IR1402+43 on September 11, 1995, contain a number of galaxies with diameters between 4\arcsec and 11\arcsec within a 1\arcmin \times 1\arcmin area of the PC1 and WF4 CCD chips, as well as several smaller galaxies located throughout the field.
The group is dominated by five large spiral galaxies and one bright elliptical galaxy arranged in the shape of a cross. We present V and I band photometry, V-I colors and color gradients of the larger galaxies. The luminosity function of the group and the morphology of each galaxy is also discussed. Based on the diameter of the largest spiral galaxy and the V-band magnitude of the bright elliptical galaxy we estimate a redshift of this group to be z\sim0.15 (H_o=75 and q_o=0).
