[119.01] A Search for High redshift Radio-loud Quasars

I. M. Hook (U.C. Berkeley), R. G. McMahon (IoA, Cambridge, UK)

We present results from a survey for high-redshift, radio-loud QSOs. Radio sources selected at 5GHz have been optically identified using APM scans of POSS-I plates, and spectroscopy was obtained for the red, star-like counterparts (O-E\ge 1.0, E\le 20). The survey covers an area of 3.7sr and resulted in the discovery of \sim 30 radio-loud QSOs with z>3. These objects were used for a first determination of the luminosity function of radio-loud QSOS at z>3. B and R band CCD identifications are now being obtained for flat-spectrum S\ge 0.2Jy sources that are blank on POSS-I. The survey is also being extended to fainter radio flux limits (S_5GHz\ge 25mJy) using the new VLA FIRST survey.
