Session 122 - The Sun.
Oral session, Thursday, January 18
Salon del Rey South, Hilton
The SPARTAN 201 coronal observatory equipment was flown for the third time during the STS-69 mission, 8 - 10 September 1995. The white light coronagraph was used to observe the north polar region during a period of joint observational effort with the Ulysses spacecraft which was located at a radial distance of approximately 2.2 AU and a heliographic latitude of N77. The 30-year record of the Mauna Loa K-coronameters is used to set the context of this observation. The thirty hour record from the SPARTAN coronagraph is used to characterize the short term variations in the corona that were detected during this unique joint observing period.
