[7.17] A Multiwavelength Study Of The Orion-Eridanus Superbubble

Z. Guo, D. N. Burrows (PSU)

We present the results from a multiwavelength study of the Orion-Eridanus superbubble, based on the ROSAT PSPC data, IRAS 100 \mum data, 21 cm data, and interstellar Na D absorption line data. We found that the temperature and N_H distribution obtained from the best fit are consistent with the hypothesis that the morphological difference of the superbubble between the \frac14 keV and the \frac34 keV X-ray emission results from the absorption by the intervening gas. The distance to the near side of the Orion-Eridanus superbubble along (l,b) \sim (203^\circ, -40^\circ), and the upper distance limit in the same direction are estimated as 155 \pm 22 pc and 586 pc, respectively. Interstellar pressures from cosmic rays and interstellar magnetic fields may play important roles in the evolution of the superbubble.
