[14.03] On the Distribution of Luminosity Within Cosmic Gamma--Ray Bursts

We present a detailed investigation into the distribution of luminosity within a number of strong cosmic gamma--ray bursts (GRBs) observed by the Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) on the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory. We investigate the possiblity that the distribution of luminosity within these bursts may be similar to the distribution of peak luminosities which is a component of the observed brightness distribution of GRBs. We also examine the usefulness of the internal luminosity distribution as a burst diagnostic and/or charaterization parameter.
