[15.08] Astro-QUERY: An Interactive WWW Information Server for Astronomy

F. Kronberg, I. Hawkins (CEA/UCB)

We present Astro-QUERY, the on-line prototype of an innovative WWW information server designed to facilitate interactive access to astronomy information by the K--12 community. Our prototype focuses on content from the NASA EUVE\/ satellite mission available through the Internet. The EUVE\/ archive contains not only the mission's information and data, but also a wealth of educational resources for the K--12 community. Astro-QUERY, being developed as part of CEA's Science Education Program, allows the user to easily select and access material from the EUVE\/ Mission Archive through use of the following interactive information parameters: level of complexity, amount of detail, communications (bandwidth) capabilities, and information topic. The various information topics include: EUVE\/ participation in NASA's four key research areas for the 21st century, teacher-developed lesson plans, interactive tutorials on specific EUVE\/ topics, and a guided electronic tour of the Center for EUV Astrophysics. Astro-QUERY is primarily intended for use by secondary education teachers planning lessons using data from our science archive, however, it will also be available for use by general interest WWW surfers and college students who access the CEA WWW site. A hands-on demonstration of Astro-QUERY will be performed on a workstation at the AAS conference site. This work is supported by NASA contract NAS5-29298.
