[32.01] Radiative Transfer in Astrophysics: Past, Present, and Future

The discipline of radiative transfer has provided the foundation for the interpretation of essentially all astrophysical data. Some of the major developments in the field in the 20th Century are reviewed, and an attempt is made to identify directions for future research, and to assess the likely importance of the discipine in the coming century.
