[54.11] A Prototype High Speed Fiber Fed Photometer

During the late winter 1996 observing season we deployed a prototype high speed fiber fed photometer at the WIYN observatory. The photometer consisted of 4 channels; two channels of 1000 \mu core fiber optic, and two channels of 400 \mu core fiber optic. The two core sizes corresponded to \sim 3^\prime\prime.8 and 9^\prime\prime.6 apertures respectively for the 400 \mu and 1000 \mu fiber optics at the focal plane of the WIYN telescope. The primary detectors were Hamamatsu R5600U photomultiplier tubes with 3/8 inch bialkali photocathodes. The system was designed to provide sampling frequencies > 1 kHz. The instrument was designed to smoothly integrate into the HYDRA multi-object spectrograph. The goal of the prototype system was proof of concept. The instrumentation will be described and the results from a 2 night observing run will be presented.
