[83.05] The Spectral Energy Distribution of the Proto-Galaxy Candidate MS1512-cB58

We present follow-up observations of the proto-galaxy candidate MS1512-cB58 at z=2.72 discovered by Yee et al. (1996). cB58 is an extremely luminous, well-resolved disk-like galaxy, with a rest UV spectrum containing strong P-Cygni lines indicative of the presence of massive O and B stars. The spectral energy distribution from rest frame 1300-6000 Å\ is fit by population synthesis models from Bruzual and Charlot (1993) which confirm a very young age for this galaxy. While a substantial older population cannot be completely ruled out with the present data, the simplest interpretation is that this is a galaxy within about 100 million years of the initial burst of star-formation which created most of its stellar mass, and that it will likely evolve into a bright galaxy of several L* by today. Observations to further constrain the star formation rate, dust mass, molecular mass, and limit the extent to which it is gravitationally lensed by foreground objects will be discussed.
