[4.04] They're Beautiful Pictures But What do They Mean?

J. Martin (STScI)

The Space Telescope Science Institute sponsored a workshop in which classroom teachers collaborated with institute staff to write lessons for the World Wide Web. The purpose of the lessons was to use Hubble images to teach basic science concepts in an engaging and lively fashion. Each of the lessons has an interactive component on the Web. The lessons also strive to develop an appreciation for some of the most spectacular Hubble images that goes beyond surface beauty. This talk describes one of the lessons "STARS: Birth, Life, Death, and Rebirth" in some detail.
